Jain University Organized an Industrial Visit to APMC Tumkur for CMS B-School Students

Jain University's CMS Business School organized an industrial visit to Agricultural Produce Market Committee (A.P.M.C) located in Batawadi, Tumkur on 26 October, 2017 for the Core Marketing third semester students, CM1 and CM2. The team was supervised by Prof. Kavitha Gowda and Dr. Imroz.

Students got an opportunity to interact with Dr. Kodi Gowda, Joint Director of APMC along with the few officials of APMC. The APMC yard is of 41 acres and Tumkur has one sub market yard at Hebbur and two sub market yards at Anthrasanalli for fruit and vegetables, generating INR 60 lakh income annually.

Students were sensitized on different facilities provided by APMC for farmers like SMS Registration to get the price information. Once the farmer register for this facility, he receives regular messages on prices for various agricultural output.

During the visit, students were informed about the following topics:

  • Minimum support prices for farmer
  • Pledge Loan Scheme - Loans up to INR 2,00,000 or 60 percent of the value of the agricultural produce may be paid to the farmers against the pledge of their agricultural produce. The market committee will take adequate steps to safeguard the pledged produce against fire, theft and such other risks, and arrange for periodical fumigation at the cost of the market committee.
  • The APMC's service to farmers, commission agent, traders, importers, exporters etc. for the development of better trade and opportunity for farmers to sell his produced goods.
  • Online Trading System
  • APMC lab where various agricultural produce are experimented based on the quality according to which the price for the produce is fixed.

The industrial visit was a unique learning experience for the students by bridging the gap between theoretical classes and practical sessions thus giving them clarity about important marketing concepts in a rural set-up.
