CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) conducted a guest lecture on “Competency Mapping and its Levels” as part of the Speaker Series, an initiative of HR Café, a club activity of the Organizational Behavior and Human Resources (OB&HR) Area on March 17, 2021. The coordinators for the session were Dr. Ujjal Mukherjee, Associate Professor and Area Chair - Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), and Dr. Gayathri. R. - Assistant Professor, CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). A total of 24 students pursuing MBA in HR attended the session.
The Guest Speaker for the session was Professor Vinayak Bhat, Assistant Professor - Organizational Behavior and Human Resources at CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). Prior to becoming a part of the CMS B School, Professor Vinayak Bhat was associated with reputed institutes like Al Ameen Institute of Management Studies and Institute of Management - Christ University as a faculty member.
The objective of the session was to introduce the learner to the basic concepts of competency and competency mapping. Professor Vinayak Bhat assigned an activity to the students to help them develop a better understanding of the concept. The session was a hands-on approach wherein the participants were made to take note of and understand how to write competency statements along with levels of competencies. The entire session was smartly planned, where small groups were formed and each group worked on single competency and levels of competencies to be defined by the team. At the end of the activity, students had a fair idea of how competency mapping is the key to manage talent in any organization.
