Case Study Methodology: An eye-opening workshop for researchers

JAIN (Deemed to-be University) organised a workshop on ‘Case Study Methodology’ on 26th May 2023 with the aim of enlightening the faculty about the various aspects of writing a case study. The session started with a welcome address by Dr Abhinav Tiwary, followed by a brief on the objectives of the Case Study Centre given by Dr Kumar Mukul, the head of the centre.

Dr G Ramesh, Professor of Eminence & Director, NITI School of Public Policy & Leadership, JAIN (Deemed to-be University) acted as the resource person for the workshop. He talked about the multiple features of case methodology and the steps to develop cases based on real life situations. Prof. Ramesh took the opportunity to discuss and analyse his own case study on Sterlite Copper: Paying for Past Sins. He went on to highlight the course structure, process of choosing a case, frame learning objectives, preparation stage, usage of content, style and secondary data in the cases. Continuing the thought, Prof. Ramesh talked about case writing which involves identifying gaps, availability of data and accessibility to primary sources of data. Next, he tackled another hurdle for the researchers and elaborated on how to handle sessions, the requisites for pre-class preparation, structuring the session and teaching plans, post class reflection.

The workshop turned out to be a success for all the attendees, including programme heads, area heads, faculty members, teaching assistants, research associates and research assistants. Overall, it was a true learning experience for the attendees and they appreciated every part of the workshop.
