JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) organised a workshop on "Ethical Research Practices, Bibliometrics, and Benefits of ORCID ID" in association with Karnataka State Library Association (KALA), Bangalore on November 15, 2023. The objective behind the event was to spread awareness about the library resources, services and its significance to the users. The idea was to enhance information seeking skills of students in the Learning Resource Centre and Promoting library services, facilities, and resources for continual improvement.
The event started with the invocation song by Dr. Rashmi Yadav, Faculty of Finance followed by the lightning of the lamp by the dignitaries including the chief guest Dr. Ravi B Gaddagimath, the guest of honour Dr. Madaiah Krishnamurthy, and the Chairperson Dr. Harold Andrew Patrick. Next, Dr. Shekara H P welcomed the gathering and Dr. Shobha Patil introduced the chief guest of the programme. Dr. Ravi B Gaddagimath spoke on the importance of the National Library Week and the implications of five laws of library science as enumerated by Dr. S R Ranganathan, father of library science in India.
Dr. M Krishnamurthy spoke about the Karnataka State Library Association, objectives of the association and its activities being organised every year throughout the state. He also spoke on the changing role of the librarians and the use of internet for different purposes.
In the absence of Dr. Dinesh N, Director, CMS Business School, the Dean of the college Dr. Harold Andrew Patrick acted as the chairperson for the programme. He spoke about Artificial Intelligence (AI) being introduced at various levels in higher education system including library and information centres, as well as on how to make use of those technologies. After the speech by the chairperson, a vote of thanks was rendered by Mr. Prithviraj.
After a short tea break, Mr. Pallab Pradhan, Scientist C, INFLIBNET, Gandhinagar started a workshop on ‘Ethical Research Practices, Basics of Bibliometrics and Benefits of ORCID ID’.
