Nurturing Women's Health: A Talk on Hygiene & Sanitation

14 Apr 2025

The Ethics & Sustainability Cell of CMS Business School, JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), organised a special health awareness session on 8th April 2025, dedicated to educating and empowering the female housekeeping staff on crucial menstrual and personal hygiene aspects. The event commenced with a warm and thoughtful welcome address by Dr Uma Swadimath, which set a supportive tone for the session. Ms Rachana efficiently served as the emcee, ensuring smooth coordination and active engagement throughout the programme.

A key highlight of the event was the comprehensive and insightful talk delivered by Dr Mamatha Harish, a renowned expert in women's health. Her session addressed many often-overlooked topics, including the importance of menstrual hygiene, comparisons between menstrual cups and sanitary pads, safe practices for personal grooming, prevention of urinary tract infections (UTIs), and guidance on period pain management. She also touched upon awareness regarding menopause, perimenopause, vaginal discharge, and the correct usage of tampons while offering practical nutrition and wellness tips to support women's health during menstruation.

To further engage the participants, an interactive "Myths and Facts" game was organised, which created a lively atmosphere and effectively debunked several common misconceptions surrounding menstruation and hygiene. In appreciation of her valuable contribution, Dr Mamatha Harish was felicitated by Dr Salma Begum, Area Chair of General Management. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr Shakeela Banu, acknowledging the housekeeping staff's enthusiastic participation and the organising team's collaborative efforts.

As a gesture of care and support, Dr Mamatha Harish, along with the Ethics & Sustainability Cell coordinators Dr Salma Begum and Dr Shalu Singhal, distributed sanitary pads to all attendees. The session was informative, inclusive, and empowering, fostering a safe and respectful environment where participants could learn, share experiences, and enhance their awareness of personal health and hygiene.
