Bengaluru, 9 August 2025 – JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) marked National Librarians’ Day 2025 with a special programme held at Seminar Hall 3, FMS-CMS Block, bringing together faculty, students, and professionals from the Library and Information Science (LIS) community. The event, coordinated by Dr. Shekar H. P. and Mr. Prithviraj, featured distinguished guest speaker Dr. C. R. Chandrashekar, Founder of Samadhana and Former Professor, Department of Psychiatry, NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

The three-hour session honoured the enduring legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India, reaffirming the relevance of his Five Laws of Library Science in today’s academic and professional context. With around 40 participants in attendance, the programme provided an engaging platform to reflect on the evolving role of libraries and librarians in an increasingly digital era.

Highlights of the event included:

  • Commemorating LIS Contributions: Celebrating the lifetime achievements of veteran library and information professionals, while inspiring the next generation to uphold excellence and innovation.
  • Special Lecture on Mental Health: Delivered by Dr. Chandrashekar, the session emphasised the importance of mental health and work-life balance and offered practical strategies for personal and professional wellness.
  • Demonstration of the KALA Portal: Showcasing technology-driven solutions for professional organisations, with a strong call for adopting digital tools to enhance accessibility, collaboration, and efficiency.

Speaking at the event, Dr. C. R. Chandrashekar remarked: “Libraries are not only repositories of knowledge but also safe spaces for reflection, growth, and community building. Just as we care for our mental health, we must nurture our intellectual health by embracing both the timeless values and the modern tools that libraries provide.”

The programme concluded with an acknowledgement of librarians' continuing significance in fostering learning, innovation, and holistic development. Participants expressed enthusiasm for future collaborative initiatives and workshops aimed at advancing digital literacy and promoting wellness among academic professionals.
